Siddharth Vashisht was born in 1977, better known as Manu Sharma, is a convicted murderer serving a life sentence for the 1999 murder of model Jessica Lall. Sharma is the son of former Indian minister Venod Sharma.
The acquittal led to widespread rebellion. In March 2006 the case was again taken up in the Delhi High Court, where it was tried on a fast track basis. Among the evidence was re-introduced two spent cartridges recovered from Manu's car, showed ballistic analysis of it to match the ball recovered from Lall skull.
Sharma was detained in Tihar jail with co-accused Vikas Yadav and Amardeep Singh Gill, who had been convicted of destroying evidence. Together with another high profile prisoner, has Santosh Kumar Singh Sharma has been involved in helping other inmates draft legal complaints.
